IDC calculation

Thursday 31 October 2019

At EnerBat, we have accredited experts who can carry out the heating requirement index – known as “IDC” – calculations

Owners of heated buildings are under an obligation to provide the IDC calculation each year. This is the amount of energy required every year to heat and produce domestic hot water divided by the area heated.

By publishing this information, the Cantonal Energy Office of Geneva (OCEN) can determine which buildings are consuming the most energy and force the owners to carry out energy audits, take steps and work to improve them, work which can be assisted and supervised by EnerBat.

For residential buildings with five or more heating customers and any other buildings which are not allocated exclusively for residential use, since 2011 the IDC has been calculated annually according to the directive on the calculation of the heating requirement index, and these buildings are also subject to an individual heating cost statement.

For residential buildings with fewer than five heating customers, the calculation of the IDC is not an obligation for the moment.

The data required is the accredited SRE (Surface de Référence Énergétique – Energy Reference Area, accredited by a professional) and the heating and hot water consumption for the year in question. If the SRE is not known, EnerBat can establish it based on the architect’s drawings or readings taken for this purpose.

Since 2012, only specifically trained experts have had the right to publish IDCs.
